This month (May 2018), two Belizean young men received awards. We are so very proud of both and hope they continue to master their skills.

Meet Jamal Witty

Belizean Young Men - Jamal WittyJamal Witty attends the University of Belize in Belmopan where he is an active member the Environmental Club. He recently produced an Earth Day video for his club (peep our Basic Map Tee in the video) which has a great message about single-use plastics. It is that same video skill which he has worked to develop that won him an award. Jamal won First Place in CANTO’s 12th Annual World Telecommunications and Information Society Day Competition. Jamal directed a technology video entitled “AI Road to the Future”. In his video, Jamal highlighted how the use of Artificial Intelligence has and will continue to help us progress.

Meet Juan Bol

The second young man to receive an award this month is Juan Bol. Juan is from Belize’s most southern district, Toledo. He is a youth who did not let anything, life struggles, long commutes to school, or humble beginnings hinder his success. In addition, Juan has proved that commitment, hard-work and a good attitude truly can take you a long way. Juan received a scholarship to attend EARTH University in Costa Rica where he stood out with his agricultural skills. After receiving his degree, Juan was selected as Alltech’s Young Scientists of 2018 (Undergraduate Category) for the Central American region. His project was titled: “Evaluation of induced resistant products to improve root health and control of plant parasitic nematodes in commercial banana plantation”. Most noteworthy, Alltech brings together the brightest minds in agricultural sciences, so Juan has surely wowed us and represented Belize well.

Below are some photos of Juan wearing our Straight Outta Belize Tee while in Washington, DC.
