Our little Belize is making big progress! Today, the Belize Barrier Reef was removed from UNESCO’s list of World Heritage Sites in danger!

World Heritage Site Belize

The Belize Barrier Reef is the second largest in the world and is home to many amazing species. People travel to Belize often to experience the wonders of the reef. Belize is being looked upon as a visionary for this move as our country took bold steps to preserve our Barrier Reef.

Only 12 and representing the youth of Belize was little Madison Edwards. Madison has been an powerful environmental activist in Belize and is always bold about her beliefs. We are so proud to have this young 12 year old represent our country. She delivered a strong message to the 42nd Session of the World Heritage Committee Meeting in Bahrain. In her speech she shared:

“We may be a small nation, but me being here today proves that it’s the size of our courage and commitment that matters.”

Congratulations to Belizeans for standing together on this one! Let this be a testament of what we can accomplish when we stand together.
