Belizeans GIVE | 10 Acts of Kindness During COVID-19
What a scare the world has had because of the COVID-19 Corona Virus.
It is very easy to become fearful during a time like this and all the negativity across social media only dampens the mood. However, we have been encouraged by some acts of kindness we have seen on Facebook. Below are 10 acts of kindness Belizeans have carried out to support each other during this time. If you know a great story we should feature, please comment on this blog post.
ACTS OF KINDNESS FROM BELIZEAN BUSINESSES
1. Everyone loves Miss Deb’s and it is always a joy to see her food truck arriving or parked somewhere. The staff of New Flags Supermarket in Santa Elena were blessed with her delicious burgers one evening after work.
2. New Flags kept the kindness going and has teamed up with the Chinese community to donate groceries to those in need.
3. The Aguada Hotel & Restaurant in Santa Elena saw the act of kindress by Miss Deb’s and that triggered a chain reaction. As a matter of fact, this is the post that inspired us to share this blog. It is our hope that it will keep the acts of kindness ball rolling. The Aguada cooked and delivered delicious meals to the staff of the San Ignacio Hospital. Doctors and nurses are always on the frontline fighting for us and it was so thoughtful to bless them in this way.
4. Gallardo Services and Hardware built and donated a COVID-19 Testing Booth to the Western Regional Hospital in Belmopan. The graphic vinyls were donated by Frank Madrid from Pentagram and the AC Unit by Elijah Gill from Pascuales Pizza. This is truly a huge blessing for the frontline personnel who sacrifice to serve us.
5. Eastern Guest House in Belmopan has completely closed their business and offered it to the Ministry of Health to use as a quarantine facility should they need to. Futhermore, the use of it will be free of charge and for as long as it is needed. We pray that God blesses this business tremendously for this generous act of kindness.
6. Many businesses are suffering because of slow business caused by COVID-19 lockdowns. As a result, Belizeans have faced pay cuts, some have temporarily lost jobs, while others have completely lost their jobs. James Scott is a very experienced entrepreneur and well known in the hospitality industry and business community. He is kind enough to offer free training to prepare you for the job search after COVID-19.
7. Cowpen Farms donated hundreds and hundreds of bananas to communities in Southern Belize.
ACTS OF KINDNESS FROM THE BELIZEAN COMMUNITY
8. Several churches have purchased and donated groceries to their surrounding communities. Ontario Christian Community Church (O3C) donated over 200 bags of groceries to the elderly and single parent families in the Cayo District. Likewise, Full Gospel Church of God in Santa Elena also donated bags of groceries to families in need. Toledo Faith Outreach Christian Center (TFOCC) continue to gather and deliver essentials to people in the villages.
9. The Caye Caulker community has definitely set the standard for coming together. We keep seeing nothing but good stories coming from the island, so many that we could certainly write another 10 acts of kindness and then some! Follow the Caye Caulker Belize page to see even more amazing things people of the community are doing to assist each other. Simalar stories are coming out of San Pedro and you can stay updated on The San Pedro Sun’s page. Even San Pedro Belize Express Water Taxi which services both islands donated over $30,000 in food items to the islands.
10. There is a new group on Facebook where seamstresses from all across the country are coming together to sew masks for those who need it most. While many businesses have hiked prices, people have stocked up on way more than they need, and others are making to sell, these amazing individuals are pooling resources to make masks to give away. Be sure to check out our video on how to make your own mask at home! All you need is a t-shirt!
