Nothing But Footprints
The Chiquibul Challenge in Belize – A Race for Conservation
Nothing But Footprints: Chiquibul is one of the most beautiful places in Belize. Most noteworthy, is it’s 400,000 acres of rich wildlife and biodiversity. Friends for Conservation & Development (FCD) have worked for years in the area to fight against the many threats in the Chiquibul Forest. This year, FCD was blessed with great exposure thanks to their friends at the Belize Wildlife & Referral Clinic (BWRC).
BWRC hosted the very first Chiquibul Challenge Marathon in partnership with FCD. BWRC’s goal for The Chiquibul Challenge was to raise awareness of the Chiquibul, its beauty and threats through a race for conservation. Running for miles in the heat and hills of Belize is quite intimidating; but incredibly, the race for conservation drew over 120 participants from across the country and even Belizeans living abroad. Kim Espat received the first place prize for the 40k Challenge, and Garret Bermudez took the prize for the 20k Male and Kerah Eiley for the 20k Female. We designed the T-Shirt for the race and loved seeing many of the participants and supporters wearing them. A big thank you to Tony Rath for the amazing photos!
Remember, when you visit the Chiquibul Forest, or any other sites in Belize, to take only photos and leave nothing but footprints.
