“If you had asked 16 year old Jonathan ‘What do you want to do with your life?’ he would have said ‘I’m not sure but I want to make it in skateboarding somehow, I know I won’t be pro, maybe have a shop or a board company.’”

LOGOS: New Houston Skateboard Brand

Houston Skateboard Brand: LOGOSOur team had the honor of providing the first set of merch for Logos, a new Houston skateboard brand. The company went for a basic black and white theme–yin and yang. We hooked them up with tees and dad caps which can now be bought directly from them or from Beantooth Skate Shop. I (Deidra) met Jonathan (owner of Logos) at Leaders Academy (LA) back in 2013. I was excited when I got the first text from him “Deig! I’m starting a skateboard brand. The name came straight from God. I finally know what I’m supposed to do.” We are excited about his new venture and had a chat with him to find out more about Logos.

What’s the inspiration behind the name?

“Logos has many deep meanings, spreading across philosophy, theology, etc. I was very inspired by listening to Jordan Petersen who talks about the logos as speaking the truth and creating order out of chaos. So for me it’s a way to represent true skateboarding, creativity, and draw from the deep philosophical and religious meanings. It has a very deep meaning to me as a Christian.” On the Logos Facebook page, he shares: “Skateboarding has endless possibilities. Every time you skate you make order from the chaos. This is true skateboarding.”

How long have you been skating?

“I started at about 13, so 13 years with a slight hiatus for about a year. I’m an only child so my cousin was the closest thing I had to an older brother, he got me into it and it was all I wanted to do.”

Tell us a little about the journey and the people who inspired you.

Though it was a long time passion, Jonathan shared that it didn’t happen right away. “All got lost when my dad died. It’s taken me 8 years to circle back to where I was mentally before he passed.” He has definitely come out of that phase and his new brand has taken off well. We hope this brief preview into his story can inspire you to make your dream happen. no matter how long it takes or how huge the obstacles are along the way.

“There’s too many skaters to name that inspired me. I always liked creative skating guys like Rodney Mullen, Richie Jackson and Dan MacFarlane. Dan was a huge inspiration to me starting out as he was a Houston pro with his own brand. His skating was some of the first creative skating I had seen. He’s continued to inspire and help me with my brand while launching his new brand Houston Skateboards. The journey has been hard; I had moments where I lost the drive to skate, or have had injuries. Some people can convince you it’s not a worthwhile pursuit, but it’s a part of me for sure.”

What has been your favorite moment?

“I have so many good memories, but my favorite moment is now. Being 26 and still skating and progressing blows my mind. Having the opportunity to work in skateboarding, teach kids to skate, and start a company is just truly an unbelievable blessing.”
